Please Go Away, Chris Miss Watts

American Murder: The Family Next Door ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

2020 has been an unusual year for movies.

One of my favorite Netflix movies (ok, it’s a documentary, but a very creative one), at least in terms of presentation and how it impacted me was the story of Chris Watts and his family, told mostly through social media posts.

If you haven’t seen this and true crime is your wheelhouse — heck, even if it’s not — you must put it on your watchlist. Extreme warning: it’s not a happy, family movie. It’s the worst kind of family nightmare and the subtly of the presentation through social media postings and Cops-like bodycams is effective. Stop reading this post now if this seems like it might be your kind of film to watch around the holidays, because everything that follows this will SPOIL.

… you’ve been warned, SPOILERS ahead …

Now, that we can talk spoilers, let me say following real criminals lives in prison isn’t that interesting to me, but somehow Chris Watts remains interesting to many people. We last checked in on this story a month ago (see: Chris Watts Life Insurance On Murdered Family Results In Court Battle Between Grandparents),

There continues to be a lot of coverage on both social media and in the news about Chris Watts and his murdered family. So much that People magazine, among others, continue to feature coverage.

The most recent focus is how he is living a life in “hell” during Christmas, according to his prison penpals and contacts.

“He doesn’t like talking about his life before prison,” says the source, “but he has said that he used to be a huge fan of Christmas: decorating the house, spending time with family. And he knows 100% that it’ll never happen again, and that it’s his own fault. He’s in a hell of his own making.”

The irony here is maddening. This monster in human clothing is 35 years old. He’ll rot away in the Wisconsin prison system for 60+ more years if we’re lucky. I don’t mind one bit having my taxpaying dollars used to lock up animals like Chris Watts. He looks like such a clean cut all American dad and he’s literally the worst definition of human.

This creature just makes my skin crawl. I guess that’s why the documentary made such an impact. What he did to his own children is so utterly unthinkable … and yet, I can’t stop thinking why would anybody do this? Children are precious gifts. He could have just gotten a divorce if he didn’t want his family. Why would anybody do this?

  1. Todd, I agree with you. I saw this documentary too some weeks ago. I had to see it because I lost track when the story was on the news and didn’t know what happened to him in the end. I think sometimes these people say stuff to keep their stories going in the media so they can get attention. I personally think he doesn’t deserve any attention for what he did to his family but our society tends to focus a lot on the criminal and not on the victims.
