Coca-Cola Discontinuing Tab, Remember The Product Reference in Back To The Future?

Back To The Future ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Remember when Marty McFly tries to order a Tab in 1955 Hill Valley in the movie Back To The Future? The attendant replies, “Can’t give you a tab unless you’re going to have to order something.”

After nearly 60 years, Coca-Cola is discontinuing its first-ever diet soda, Tab, which acquired a huge fan base in the ’70s and ’80s and maintained a small but devoted following through the years.

In 1955 nobody knew what Tab was, even in the fictional movie world. Fast forward 20 years or so and Tab was all the diet rage to drink. In 2020, most people wouldn’t know what Tab was either and a few years from now, it will be gone.

Product placement will eventually date your movie. Sometimes good, sometimes not so good. This scene is just one of several examples of clever screenwriting.

  1. I will have to tell my mother about this. She drank Tab when I was a kid and even put it in my lunch bag from time to time. I specifically remember her giving me a can for field day. All the kids had regular sodas but I had to pull out the cooler a can of Tab! How embarrassing! My mother was always on a diet and trying to help me too with my weight but that was not the time at school! LOL! See I still remember it and I am almost 50 years old!

      1. Yes, you are right, I am still young! HaHa! I will call my mom later today, but she will probably be okay because she stopped drinking it a long time ago. I did have a co-wworker years ago that requested it in the soda machine at my job. She loved the stuff and the soada man stocked it for her. But that was years ago.
