Next in the four remaining films Adam Sandler has with his renewed Netflix deal is a Halloween-oriented comedy called Hubie Halloween (PG-13) and the official trailer dropped today.
Despite his devotion to his hometown of Salem, (and its Halloween celebration), Hubie Dubois is a figure of mockery for kids and adults alike. But this year, something is going bump in the night, and it’s up to Hubie to save Halloween.
Hubie Halloween (2020) – IMDb
Official trailer:
It’s strange how frequently Sandler is cast as a slighty dim-witted, borderline and/or actual mentally retarded character. Here he plays Hubie, believing the monsters are real and needs to protect the town and save the day, almost Waterboy-style.
We know where the shtick is going and it potentially will make us laugh. I do wish, however, we’d get more range of comedic characters from him instead of the boilerplate Sandler tropes. Look at what he’s capable of with movies like Uncut Gems. Spread your wings, Sandman, you can do it!
The sequel to Murder Mystery starring opposite Jennifer Aniston will be another of his four movies. That was the #1 most popular movie at Netflix in 2019 in the United States and 8 other countries. Haven’t come across Sandler’s plans for the other two films yet, but we’ll hear about them soon, I’m sure.
Hubie Halloween will be available for streaming on Netflix on October 7, 2020.
Not my thing, that’s for sure!

I usually like silly comedies. They are the perfect waste of time on an evening when you’re tired. But seeing the trailer, I get the impression that this movie would make me even more tired. But I’m waiting for your review before I dismiss it completely. 🙂

Sandler produces comfort food and we need that right now. I think this looks stupid AND entertaining.
