Happy New Year’s Day Wednesday! With 2019 now officially behind us, it’s time to ring in the new year with a whopping …. one new wide release.
Yes, just one, but it’s a horror film based on a nasty evil Japanese legend.
The last Japanese horror film I watched was Tetsuo: The Iron Man ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Loved that film!
If that doesn’t get your blood pumping, then there’s always other movies playing or staying home, nursing that hangover with a steady diet of awesome streaming goodness.
Hoping that this horror film does not abuse the jumpscare. That seems to be the gimmick all too many newer horror movies I’ve seen. Shocking the viewer with loud, abrupt sounds and a sudden image appearing isn’t horrifying, it’s jarring. There is a big difference. Now, yes, a jumpscare can be effective and scary. Like in Halloween ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ when Michael Myers shadow appears in the distance and that creepy, atmospheric music starts playing. That is an effective, scary jumpscare. Those I’m interested in seeing. Bring those jumpscares on. But just every other scene or three popping something out, blaring loud sound, no.
The Grudge trailer suggests there might be more than a few jumpscares. Am hoping there is less of that and more of what’s inside that tub with the creepy, twisted hands.
