Classic Scares + October 2019 Horror Challenge Completed

ROKU Hallowee-themed design in 2019

Any serious overall “best of” list of horror that omits at least some classic films is lacking. Claude Rains in The Invisible Man . Boris Karloff as Frankenstein. Lon Chaney Jr. magical transformation in The Wolfman. Bela Lugosi as Dracula. My oh my these monster movies are fantastic! I’m sure there are some people who watch and think, “I’d rather watch Saw!” or “Where is the gore?” but when you are scared with little to no blood and gore, that is very much horror, too.

Other horror classification posts in October 2019 include:

Next Halloween there are many other types that will be interesting to explore along with films that fit these subgenres.

October 2019 Challenge — Completed the challenge on 10/26/2019, but kept adding on movies after that.

GOAL: Watch and review 66+ horror films

This was a little more challenging mentally — but a lot of fun — than I thought it would be at the first of the month watching that many horror films. October is a great month every year which culminates in my second favorite holiday: Halloween!

Roku has some nice Halloween-themed decorations (pictured at top of this post). Also like how Letterboxd, made the raining blood logo:

There are plenty of horror movies I didn’t watch this year, so stay tuned in Halloween 2020 and beyond. A bunch more Stephen King films, including The Shining., The Exorcist, The Amityville Horror, The Omen, Nightmare on Elm Street, more of the Universal horror movies (Frankenstein, Dracula, etc) and the horror list goes on and on. It will take years to rewatch them all, plus they are adding new ones every year.

So, if I missed reviewing some of your personal horror favorites, please let me know in the comments what else you’d like me to watch (or rewatch if I’ve already seen). I’ve probably seen more than a 1,000 horror movies in my lifetime so far (25 horror years times 40 years = 1,000 movies, and I know I’ve watched more than an average of 25 horror movies every year).

Happy Halloween to al1!
